Over the last couple of weeks, I had a few job interviews lined up. It was super stressful—as you probably know, you need to show up as your best self in every single one. You’re expected to understand the company, their products, the culture, and craft the perfect answers to show you’re a great fit.
That’s intimidating, especially if you’re juggling multiple applications or haven’t interviewed in a while.
When I first started job hunting again, I felt overwhelmed trying to prep for each interview while still customizing my approach. I spent hours writing and rewriting answers, researching company pages, and polishing my pitch. The result? A string of “Thank you for your application…” rejections. That’s when I turned to AI—specifically ChatGPT, Agent.ai, and a few others—to take the pressure off and create a system that actually worked.
In this post, I’ll show you how I use AI to prepare for job interviews, how it helped me feel more confident, and the exact prompts I use for smarter, faster prep.

Interview Prep Feels So Overwhelming
Job interviews aren’t just about answering questions. They’re about storytelling, strategy, and timing. The pressure to stand out, be authentic, and check all the boxes can feel like too much. Honestly? For me, it’s like being on a sales call—you’ve got one shot to close the deal, and if you miss, you’re off quota.
And in a tough job market like this one, the chances of rejection are even higher. Even when you give it your all, there’s still that voice in your head wondering, What if it’s still not enough? Trying your best and still facing a “no” is not an easy pill to swallow.
There are so many reasons why interviews feel heavy. But mainly because:
- You’re trying to be perfect at everything—tone, timing, body language, keywords
- You want to feel authentic, but also polished and “professional enough”
- You’re matching yourself with the job description while still sounding like you
- Each company is different—you need to learn about them to tailor your answers
- Time is limited, especially when juggling multiple applications at once
That’s where AI stepped in for me. It gave me a system I could rely on, so I could spend less energy overthinking—and more time showing up as myself.
My AI Interview Prep Routine (Start to Finish)
1. Practicing Interview Questions with ChatGPT
One of my favorite ways to prep is using ChatGPT to simulate mock interviews and brainstorm answers. It’s quick, customizable, and gives me space to think through my responses without pressure.
I usually start with something like:
“Can you ask me 10 common behavioral interview questions for a marketing operations role?”
Then, I’ll paste in the job description and the company website using the ChatGPT Search feature, so the questions and follow-up advice feel tailored—not generic.
Once I pick a question I want to work on, I ask:
“Can you help me answer this one using the STAR method: Tell me about a time you fixed a broken campaign process?”
It’s like having a calm, always-available practice buddy who won’t judge if you rewrite the same answer five times.
Pro tip: If you’re short on time or want a more natural feel, use ChatGPT’s voice feature. You can literally talk it out like a mock interview—and it feels surprisingly real.
Researching the Company with AI
Before any interview, I treat company research like prepping for a sales call—you need to know the business so you can clearly explain why you’re a great fit.
Instead of spending hours scrolling through outdated blog posts or piecing together scattered reviews, I use ChatGPT’s search feature to get a fast, focused overview. My go-to prompts are:
“What should I know about [Company Name] before a job interview?”
“Summarize [Company]’s mission, culture, and top products.”
And when I want to go deeper:
“What are [Company]’s top competitors, and how does their product stand out?”
These tools pull up-to-date insights—like recent press, leadership changes, product launches, and even cultural values—so when they ask, “Why do you want to work here?”, I can give a thoughtful, specific answer instead of something generic.
If you’re using Agent.ai, try their Company Research Agent. It delivers a detailed report with everything you need: mission, product overview, culture, and the latest press—all in one place.
Creating STAR Stories on Demand
If you’re like me, remembering specific work examples on the spot can be hard. That’s where AI becomes a storytelling coach.
“Can you help me create a STAR response for a time I led a marketing automation clean-up project?”
I’ll share bullet points, and ChatGPT turns them into a clear, memorable story.
Bonus: I reuse these stories across multiple interviews (customized as needed).
Real Prompts That Helped Me (Feel Free to Copy!)
I don’t just use ChatGPT like a search engine—I treat it like a conversation. Before I even get into specific prompts, I usually start with something casual, like:
“Hey, I have a job interview for a [Job Title] position with [Company Name] tomorrow. I need help prepping—can you guide me through it?”
That sets the context so everything that follows feels more tailored. Then I use prompts like these to save hours of time:
- “What are the most common behavioral questions for [job title]?”
- “Can you quiz me on interview questions for a HubSpot/Marketo expert?”
- “What does [Company] care about based on their website or recent news?”
- “Can you help me brainstorm 3 good questions to ask the interviewer at the end?”
These help me practice smarter, not harder. And because I’ve already shared the role and company, the responses usually feel super relevant—like having a career coach who’s already read the brief.
What AI Can—and Can’t—Do in Interview Prep
Let’s be real—AI is incredible, but it’s not magic. It’s a tool that helps you prepare, not a substitute for your experience, instincts, or personality.
✅ What AI Can Help With:
- Structuring your thoughts clearly and confidently
- Researching companies, products, and competitors quickly
- Rewriting answers for tone, clarity, or confidence
- Practicing behavioral questions and getting feedback
❌ What AI Can’t Replace:
- Your energy, presence, and human connection
- Handling curveball questions or real-time follow-ups
- Reading the room or managing nerves during the interview
But here’s the thing—when you use AI as part of your prep, you walk in more prepared, more focused, and way more confident. And that confidence? It shows.
Final Thoughts: Use AI as a Prep Partner, Not a Crutch
Using AI for interview prep has helped me go from overwhelmed to organized. I don’t waste hours second-guessing my answers or falling into research rabbit holes. Instead, I can focus on showing up as myself—with clarity, confidence, and context.
If you’re feeling the pressure before an interview, try using tools like ChatGPT or Agent.ai to:
- Practice smarter
- Research faster
- Speak clearer
Although my job search is still a work in progress, I know I have tools I can lean on when things get tough. It’s not about replacing your effort—it’s about freeing up your mental energy so you can shine when it matters most.
